Brook Ashley’s Biography of Dare
Brook tells Dare’s story as no one else can. She was Dare’s goddaughter, lifelong friend and guardian during Dare’s final years. DARE WRIGHT AND THE LONELY DOLL features more than four hundred of Dare’s own photographs and an array of other illustrations.
Brook was also a friend of Dare’s mother Edie, Dare’s brother Blaine and others in Dare’s circle in New York City. These included Broadway and film star Tallulah Bankhead, Brook’s second godmother. Donald Seawell, Brook’s father, was Dare’s confidant and protector from her early days in New York until the end of her life.
DARE WRIGHT AND THE LONELY DOLL reveals the true story of a complicated angel. She was an ethereal mixture of artistry and innocence.

Dare’s Photography
A variety of Dare’s photographs have been exhibited in prominent galleries and in art shows of international acclaim in New York and Los Angeles. She has been shown in the Flag Art Foundation Gallery (NY), Pulse LA and Art Basel.
Interested collectors and exhibitors can purchase fine art limited-edition Dare Wright photo prints of the highest quality. And we are happy to grant restricted-use permissions for legitimate scholarly and publication purposes, usually at no cost.
Other Projects
A stage play is now in the works based upon Dare’s story. And several motion picture producers have expressed interest in a biopic feature film. We will keep you posted on these and other activities, and we welcome your inquiries of any nature.
About Dare Wright Media
Dare Wright Media, LLC (est. 2011) exists to preserve, protect and manage Dare Wright’s entire estate including her life rights, all of her photographs, books, memorabilia, videos, letters, and artworks. The collection includes many original paintings by Dare’s mother, Edith Stevenson Wright.
In all, the photographic collection consists of more than 25,000 images on Dare’s original film and prints. She shot about half of them for the making of her children’s books. The rest illustrate Dare’s fashion modeling career and personal experiences. Dare developed all the negatives and prints in her apartment’s closet darkroom. And all the photographs have now been professionally scanned and cataloged. Her film and hand-made prints are safely archived.
